Thinking Of Becoming A Vegetarian

So you’ve decided to become a vegetarian? Why? Is it because it’s the popular thing to do at the moment? Maybe you’ve noticed your friends, one by one, have abandoned meat and are climbing on the vegetarian bandwagon? Whatever the reason I urge you to read the article below and make your decision based on fact.

Becoming a vegetarian is a life changing decision it is not just a matter of deciding which pair of pants, or which dress you’ll wear today. It is a decision which will have immediate and long term effects on how you live. You wouldn’t make other life changing decisions in your life without giving them serious consideration, would you? Well then don’t become a vegetarian without first thinking about it.

When I’m researching a topic my first stop is always the local library. If you’re not used to using a library for research speak nicely to the librarian they’ll be more than willing to help you out. In all the years I’ve been using a library I’ve never met an unhelpful librarian yet! You’re looking for books by vegetarians you’re also looking for medical books that will discuss the pro and cons of becoming vegetarian. This is very important if you have any medical problem.

If you’re lucky enough to live near a large library then ask them if they have any magazines on the topic. Yes, and don’t forget to read articles by people who are opposed to vegetarianism. When you are at it buy about half a dozen back issues of a vegetarian magazine.

Your task is to learn why people become vegetarian and don’t forget to have a look at a vegetarian cook-book for while major supermarkets are beginning to stock vegetarian ready meals they’re still not as plentiful as you might like.

Have you stopped to consider what effect becoming vegetarian will have on your family? Certainly if you do a lot of the cooking it shouldn’t prove that difficult and you will be showing other members of the family good example. But if you are not the main cook, or if you don’t cook regularly can you honestly expect someone else to constantly prepare good, healthy, nice tasting meals just for you?

Are you a social animal? Do you eat out often? If so then remember that when you dine out your choice of meals will be greatly restricted. Some restaurants do cater well for vegetarians but unfortunately for a large number vegetarian means everything on the menu minus the meat!

There is of course a cost factor to becoming a vegetarian. Depending upon where you live and what kinds of foods are available, becoming a vegetarian can either save you or cost you lots of money.

On a more positive note if you’ve even got a little plot of ground you will be able to grow some of your own food and you can grow a large number of herbs in pots – but that’s for another day.

The above are just some of the issues you need to consider before making a decision. If you do decided to travel down the vegetarian road then be assured that overall your lifestyle will be a better one, your health will improve and that’s reason enough to take the decision.
