What is worry? Why do we worry? Is it useful?
Worry begins as a tiny thought. The effects of worrying turns into worry when we keep thinking the same thought over and over again.
Why do we worry? We feel that if we don’t worry about something, a person or situation, then we are not doing anything and we are not caring or concerned, and that if we worry long enough, the answer to our problem will appear.
So, if I wanted to sell the idea of worry to you as being the perfect product, these would be the benefits:
Stress Tension Headache Neck & shoulder tension Produces heavy and negative energy Stomach problems resulting in an ulcer Unable to focus on anything else Attracts more negativity Unable to be creative Not living in the moment and being present Not able to connect to others Not able to effectively solve problems Uses a lot of time and energy Makes you feel tired Affects motivation Affects self-esteem and self-worth
I used to worry a lot and felt that at the time I couldn’t help but worry. Even though people would say to me, “Oh, you’re a real worrier”, “Why worry?” and “Why worry, it won’t achieve anything. It won’t change anything!”. I heard them, but I guess at the same time, I wasn’t ready to listen to them. I heard their words on an intellectual level, but did not hear and feel the words with my heart, in order for me to become more aware and to change this.
I used to worry about everything, my family, my job, and money. Money would be the biggest worry. I felt that my life and my whole being was consumed with worry. Worry seemed to play a major part in my life. I felt so down and miserable and was very negative,
You may find you are experiencing the same problems ……..
I was known as a worrier and didn’t know how to stop worrying until I found these top 3 tips.
Before I share with you my 3 top tips on how not to worry, I would first like to tell you about one of my clients.
As one of my clients said, that worrying is like having a faithful partner with you that is always predictable and never lets you down and you feel comfortable with this partner. They also said that it may sound strange, but it’s true.
This client was also addicted to worrying. She felt safe worrying and felt that it was her security blanket. After further exploration of this with her, I realised that this was her foundation for everything that she had achieved in her life. She said that she could only achieve things by worrying and that she had no expectations of herself, which meant that she was never disappointed.
Worry had served her well up until now and, in some strange way, had protected her. She felt that she had control over her own thoughts and felt too frightened to let go of this, and to allow her mind to quieten, be relaxed and calm. She didn’t trust her mind if it was calm and relaxed.
After learning about worry through my own personal growth and through others over a number of years, I discovered that worry isn’t useful. Yet at the same time, I knew I couldn’t just let go of worrying and not worry anymore.
In order for you to really understand the top 3 tips I would like to share with you, I would just like to explain the concept behind them.
Think of your mind like a massive motorway and your thoughts represent the traffic flowing in both directions. Then suddenly, there is a traffic jam, which then results in a crash. Amazingly, this all starts off as just one tiny thought. As keep thinking and focusing on this thought, it then turns into a traffic jam and then there is a crash. Whilst we are in this traffic jam, which is one dominating stressful thought, no creative thoughts can get through, so the traffic can’t flow…your creative thoughts can’t flow. We can’t solve a problem with the same kind of thinking that created it.
Worry can also be manifested into a major movie and thisprocess begins as a tiny thought, and as we keep thinking the same thought over and over again, it then turns into a major movie and that is all we are aware of and focusing on and that is our model of world.
Here are my 3 tops tips on how not to worry anymore:
When you feel yourself start to worry, remember it is only a thought and will only become reality if you run it in your head. So drop the thought and focus on something else.
Relax and calm your mind
A relaxed and calmer mind produces fresh insights and solutions to the problem you were worrying about.
The answer to your problem will only come when your mind is relaxed and calm.
